Latino Task Force Provides More Free Testing Sites As Kern’s COVID-19 Cases Rise https://kchcc.org/endofnovember/ https://kchcc.org/endofnovember/#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2020 13:52:02 +0000 https://kchcc.org/?p=779 Three new Free COVID-19 testing sites are offered by the Kern County Latino COVID-19 Task Force as testing continues to be a vital focal point for Kern County.

“The county being in Tier 1 (Purple) has many businesses concerned for their economic survival,” said Jay Tamsi, co-founder of the Kern County Latino COVID-19 Task Force. “We need to take testing seriously and work towards our economy re-opening and able to operate. Through testing and tracing we are able to slow the transmission rate having people self-isolate properly to slow the spread of the virus locally.”

Tamsi added that the county is still required to meet state guidelines to remain at this stage of being open or to be moved forward. Among the key weekly benchmarks are increased testing results.

This week’s free testing sites are as follows:

WHEN: Tuesday, November 24th (9.A.M. – 4 P.M.)
WHERE: Bakersfield College
(Parking Lot on corner of Haley and University)
*Free face masks will be given to individuals, courtesy of Adventist Health Bakersfield and Jim Burke Ford.

WHEN: Saturday, November 28th (Starting at 9 A.M.)
WHERE: Vallarta Supermarkets, 2309 Niles Pt. Street, Bakersfield, CA 93306
*Free face masks will be given to individuals, courtesy of Adventist Health Bakersfield and Jim Burke Ford.

WHEN: Sunday, November 29th (Starting at 9 A.M.)
WHERE: Vallarta Supermarkets, 1515 East Panama Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93307
*Free face masks will be given to individuals, courtesy of Adventist Health Bakersfield and Jim Burke Ford.

The testing sites will be as follows:

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m.to 6 p.m.
WHERE: Vallarta Supermarkets, 5951 East Niles Ave., Bakersfield.
Dignity Health to provide free hand sanitizer at this site.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
WHERE: Di Giorgio Park, Arvin.
The City of Arvin will be providing free facemasks at this site.

WHEN: Sunday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
WHERE: San Augustine Church, 10601 Myrtle Ave., Lamont.
Adventist Health will be providing free cloth facemasks at this site.

Walk-ins are welcomed and encouraged as there is no pre-registration requirements. The collaboration asks people to please wear a mask and social distance while on site.

“We are having great results and seeing a good number of people being tested,” Jay Tamsi, co-founder says. “We need to ensure that the Latino population is being tested, self-isolating at home when needed to stop the spread of COVID-19. This is a very serious matter for Kern County’s economic state and the physical and mental health of our Latino Community. The more access we can provide the community, the stronger and healthier we will be.”
